About this site

My name is George Hunka, and for some time I’ve been thinking about gathering all of my Philadelphia-related writings on a single site, and  … well, you’re looking at it now. I was born in Philadelphia in 1962, and though it’s been some time since I actually resided there, it remains my home town. It’s my intention to write more about the City of Brotherly Love, even if, as I mention here, “I feel a little like James Joyce writing about Dublin from Paris and Trieste (without Joyce’s talent, alas).”

I earned my BA degree in Languages and Literature from Bard College in 1983, and my writing has appeared in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, the Guardian (UK), Time Out New York, and American Theatre. I now live on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with my wife Marilyn Nonken and our two children and three cats.

I’m a proud member of Philadelphia’s Pen & Pencil Club, the oldest surviving private press club in the country. I can be reached at [email protected], and you can find me on Facebook here.
